Dr Louise Rowntree

Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Microbiology and Immunology

I am a postdoctoral researcher, which means I have completed a PhD and work full time in biomedical research. I currently work on the influenza virus, looking at how the immune system “sees” the virus and whether we can use this as a novel vaccine approach. I love doing research that is patient focussed.

The current era of biomedicine is exciting. We know so much about health and how the body works, but I think the more we know and unpack the more we realise how much we are still yet to understand. More specifically, in the field of immunology and influenza research, the big picture goal is to develop a universal vaccine which will improve protection and hopefully stop the need for yearly vaccinations.
