Under the Coverslip (UTC) competition winners announced

The microscopy and imaging competition awarded Top 3 entries plus People’s Choice at exhibition event in November.

Now in its 25th year, the UTC Competition showcases incredible beauty hidden within the microscopic world. It aims to inspire curiosity, appreciation for research and connect people to the world of science. The event invites participants to capture images taken under the microscope, blending both their technical and creative skills.

The competition is proudly organised by the Anatomy and Physiology Student Society (APSS) and sponsored by the Department of Anatomy & Physiology in the School of Biomedical Sciences at UniMelb.

First Place: Cassie Hoffmann

Cassie is a current PhD student from the Department of Psychiatry, MMS at UniMelb, supervised by Dr Maria Di Biase (DAP).

Second Place: Frankie Butera

"Elastic Heart"

Frankie is a postdoctoral scientist at MCRI.

Third Place:  James Comben

"Nuclei Sea"

James is a current PhD candidate at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He studied his Bachelor of Biomedicine (Honors) in the School of Biomedical Sciences at UniMelb.

Kyla is a current graduate research student (Master of Biomedical Science, degree by coursework) in the School of Biomedical Sciences at UniMelb.
