Raising the Bar Melbourne (Health Edition) is set for Wed 13th May. Featuring an evening of bold ideas presented by some of Melbourne’s leading healthcare experts including Prof Garron Dodd from the School of Biomedical Sciences.

On Wednesday 13th May, the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences is transforming some of Melbourne’s favourite bars and pubs into pop-up classrooms for one inspiring night.
Join us for a special health edition of Raising the Bar – an evening of bold ideas and new learning – presented by some of Melbourne’s leading healthcare experts. Choose from 20 different talks across 10 venues in one night, with topics ranging from AI and cancer research, weight-loss medicine, to menopause information overload, helping kids sleep, healthy social media habits, the future of robotic surgery and much more.

Beyond Ozempic: the next decade of weight‑loss medicine
Featured presenter, Professor Garron Dodd, is an internationally leading neuroscientist and Head of the Metabolic Neuroscience Laboratory in the Department of Anatomy & Physiology, School of Biomedical Sciences. In his session he will deliver practical insight into how weight loss drugs work in the brain and body, and why some people respond strongly while others do not.
This session will be held 6pm, Weds 13 May at the Quarterhouse – 693 Collins St, Docklands VIC.

Garron leads research programs focused on how the brain controls appetite, body weight, and blood sugar, and why people respond differently to weight loss and diabetes medicines. He has published in leading international scientific journals and received multiple awards for research impact. He is also a biotech founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Gallant Bio, translating discoveries into new therapies for obesity and type 2 diabetes. His work bridges cutting-edge neuroscience and real-world patient outcomes, with a focus on safer, more durable treatments.
