Prof Laura Mackay Appointed Inaugural Sir Gustav Nossal Professor of Immunology at WEHI
The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) has announced that Prof Laura Mackay will soon take up this prestigious role, marking an exciting new chapter for immunology across the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct.

Professor Laura Mackay is a Research Group Leader in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology (SBS) at the Doherty Institute. She is internationally recognised for her groundbreaking work in tissue‑resident memory T cells and their role in infection, cancer and autoimmune disease.
In her new position, Laura aims to strengthen collaboration and elevate the discipline of immunology within WEHI, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (School of Biomedical Sciences), Doherty Institute and across partner institutes in the biomedical precinct.
Professor Mackay will retain a strong presence within the Department, ensuring that her team and the broader immunology community continue to benefit from her leadership and collaborative approach. Her aim is to expand a network that links researchers and laboratories across the precinct, promoting shared opportunities and accelerating discoveries in immunology.
