In 1996, Dr Natalie Korszniak, completed a history of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Melbourne, for the period 1953 - 1995. The book traces the history of the Department from 1953 when the Chair of Pharmacology was initially established through to December of 1995 and documents the development of the department and the significant contributions made by various individuals within it. The history is structured so that it provides information on the first three Heads of Department and how the curriculum for various student groups, medical, dental, science, has changed over the years. Much of the detail parallels the development of the modern science of Pharmacology as we know it today. This is particularly notable in the change of research themes over the years. There is a comprehensive list of all staff and post graduate students in the Department over the period 1953-95 plus a number of photos of staff. This is a must-read for anyone wishing to learn more about the history of Pharmacology here at the University of Melbourne.
