“Work-integrated learning transforms knowledge into capability … It turns students of biomedicine into practitioners who can bridge the gap between science and the lives it touches.”
-
Prof Liz Molloy, Deputy Dean Education MDHS

What is Work Integrated Learning (WIL)?

Work integrated learning in biomedicine is important because it connects academic learning with real-world practice, builds technical and professional competencies, enhances employability and confidence, provides career clarity and networks, and prepares students for dynamic, non-linear careers through adaptability and transferable skills. It enriches the biomedical education experience and equips students for success in a broad range of careers in industry, research, and vocations.

- Professor Robyn Slattery, Director of Education, School of Biomedical Sciences

Connect theory with practice. WIL helps you apply learning from lectures and practice classes to real-world biomedical problems involving complex laboratory skills, data analysis, regulatory knowledge and clinical contexts, deepening your understanding and shaping career pathways.

Build professional skills. Through WIL and real-life settings you strengthen lab skills, data analysis, ethical and regulatory awareness, and teamwork – key skills for work-readiness.

Boost your career. The Bachelor of Biomedicine offers WIL placements that develop industry-relevant skills, improve graduate outcomes, expand professional networks, build confidence and career clarity.

For Australia to compete in the global economy, our university graduates need to be career-ready. This means they need to be flexible, adaptive and able to apply their technical skills to real-world situations.
