Project Details
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a highly prevalent pathogen and establishes a life-long prototypic latent infection with recurrent episodes of disease and virus shedding. The events that lead to the establishment and maintenance of latency and of reactivation remain poorly understood. Using new tools and protocols developed by our laboratory, we are investigating unresolved issues in HSV latency and reactivation. Our observations will enable us to understand and pinpoint the caveats in HSV latency, thereby allowing us to block the establishment of persisting infection.
