Time to get your sample prep on!

The award-winning Biological sample preparation for optical, electron, and ion microscopy series is returning bigger and better in 2025.

Delivered collaboratively by academic staff from 3 of the University’s research platforms – the Melbourne Histology Platform, the Ian Holmes Imaging Centre, and the Materials Characterisation & Fabrication Platform – the series offers a range of seminars and interactive workshops, ranging from overviews to deep dives covering all key aspects of microscopy sample preparation. Running across April and May, this year’s sessions include:

  • Say Hello to Histology: an introduction to performing microscopic anatomy (seminar)
  • Focus on Fixation: good practice sample preservation for light microscopy (seminar)
  • Staining Under the Microscope: techniques and troubleshooting biological tissue staining for light microscopy (seminar)
  • Entering into Immunolabelling: designing imaging experiments with labelled antibodies (workshop)
  • Good Practice Sample Handling and Prep for Electron and Ion Microscopy (combined seminar and workshop)
  • Biological Sample Preparation for Electron Microscopy seminar
  • Introduction to Electron Microscopy Sample Preparation workshop
