Congratulations Connor on your PhD completion seminar!

After many years of hard work, on 1st July 2026, our former Histology Technical Officer, Connor Daymond, delivered his PhD completion seminar at the Peter Doherty Institute.

Supervised by A/Prof Vicki Lawson in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology for his PhD project "Understanding the neuropathological consequences of SARS-CoV-2 infection", Connor has had an association with the Melbourne Histology Platform for several years.

As a PhD candidate, he spent hundreds (if not thousands) of hours using MHP's facilities to complete the histology components of his PhD project and assisting other members of the Lawson lab learn and undertake their own histology work. For two years, he was one of our Histology Technical Officers applying his experience with paraffin sectioning and immunostaining to complete researcher service requests and attending outreach and promotional events alongside Platform Manager, Dr Chris Freelance.

For even longer, he has been Chris' most trusted demonstrator when teaching the histology and light microscopy components of the University's BIOL90001 Microscopy for Biological Sciences graduate coursework subject.

While he will be missed around the Platform, Connor already has an established presence in industry and the team at MHP look to seeing what growing achievements continue to come his way.
