Lucy Shiels

Researcher and Clinical Audiologist

Lucy Shiels is a paediatric audiologist working as a clinician, researcher, and educator at the University of Melbourne. She enjoys all aspects of diagnostic audiology and has a keen interest in auditory processing and the listening challenges experienced by children with neurodevelopmental diagnoses. Lucy’s clinical research has focused on the management of listening difficulties in various paediatric populations.

Clinical Speech Science

Dr Yeptain Leung oversees the voice curriculum for the Master of Speech Pathology program at the University of Melbourne. Yeptain is also a researcher and his research currently focuses on gender-affirming voice care and voice ergonomics. He is examining the effects of gender-affirming testosterone therapy and how to optimise dose for transmasculine and nonbinary clients. Yeptain is also investigating into room acoustics and how to optimise them to maximise vocal health.

Dr Josh Allen

Master of Nursing Science

Josh Allen is a Senior Lecturer in Nursing and Acting Master of Nursing Science Coordinator in the Department of Nursing at University of Melbourne. Josh is a critical care nurse and his PhD was focused on exploring the patient characteristics and healthcare systems and processes that lead to clinical deterioration in acute healthcare.

Prof Bang Bui

Optometry & Vision Sciences

Professor Bang Bui is a clinician scientist at the University of Melbourne. By working in the clinic he can identify the areas of eye research that would most help his patients. His research involve both laboratory models as well clinical to better understand eye diseases and to develop better tools for assessing these diseases. He is currently Director of Research at the Melbourne School of Health Sciences and Deputy head of Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the University of Melbourne.

Master of Advanced Social Work/Master of Health & Human services

Dr Lauren Kosta is lecturer in the Department of Social Work, a researcher, and a qualified social worker. Lauren supervises graduate researchers and has coordinated the departmental graduate researcher support program. Lauren’s teaching and research focus on improving the well-being of individuals, families and communities coping with trauma, loss, and social exclusion. Lauren undertakes community- and practitioner-engaged research in the areas of post-disaster recovery, health crises, as well as disability and inclusion.

Doctor of Physiotherapy

David Kelly is a Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy and Deputy Coordinator of the Doctor of Physiotherapy in the Department of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne. David is a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, and involved in leading the musculoskeletal stream in the DPT. He has a Clinical Doctorate in physiotherapy where he was involved in exploring the quality of life of caregivers of Parkinson’s disease. David’s research interests include the application of technology in teaching such as the ‘Spinal Log’.
