Resilience and Recovery beyond the bushfires

MDHS staff attend a Bushfire Information Session with Prof Lisa Gibbs.

The presentation by Professor Lisa Gibbs focused on some of the key bushfire recovery learnings arising from the 10 Years Beyond Bushfires study and related research. Lisa led the multi-year project, Beyond Bushfires – Community Resilience and Recovery, to identify how communities affected by the Black Saturday bushfires of 2009 could be best assisted to recover.

Lisa gave insights into current bushfire scenarios and the importance of mental health promotion in approaching recovery of those affected. It was also an opportunity to discuss the university's response to this summer's bushfire crisis, identify additional issues of concern for staff and students and share ideas about next steps.
