Our 2023 high achievers celebrate with their family and peers at the School of Biomedical Sciences Student Academic Awards

On Tuesday 30 April, at University House, Professors’ Walk, we celebrated the outstanding achievements and hard work of our students who received awards from the 2023 Academic Year. Joining them were family, friends, and the academic faculty who contributed to these exceptional student outcomes.

Head of School, Heads of Departments and key faculty inspired as they congratulated our 2023 cohort of award winners.

It’s a significant honour and achievement to be an awardee, and is testament to your exceptional scholarly performance and dedication to the Biomedical Sciences discipline,” said Head, School of Biomedical Sciences, Prof Jennifer Wilkinson-Berka.

Congratulations. Be proud of your accomplishments,” said Prof Matthew Watt, Head, Department of Anatomy and Physiology.

These students, through their hard work and determination, are the best of the best, they have all displayed a deep understanding of the subject matter, thinking deeply and connecting with our biomedical sciences.

It’s an extraordinary time to be in biomedicine and you can make a real difference,” said Prof Ian van Driel, Head, Department Biochemistry and Pharmacology. “Nothing is out of reach.”

Prof Andrew Brooks, Head, Department of Microbiology and Immunology said “It’s a privilege to be here --to witness your hard work, the remarkable effort to get here.”

The School deeply values its contribution to advancing human health, both globally and locally. Our accomplished award-winning academics and researchers along with our talented student body are instrumental to our vision.

As you continue your journey, you will join the ranks of world-class researchers and scholars as well as being one of our esteemed alumni. -- Prof Jennifer Wilkinson-Berka

Held annually, the awards ceremony featured twenty-two awards across the School of Biomedical Sciences --Department of Anatomy and Physiology, Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology, and Department Microbiology and Immunology. After the award ceremony, awardees and their family members enjoyed the opportunity to take photos and celebrate over afternoon tea.
