Leading expert contributes to Gray’s Anatomy
A/Prof Quentin Fogg (Dept of Anatomy) has contributed to the 42nd edition of the famous anatomical reference textbook.
Gray’s Anatomy has been continuously published for more than 160 years and remains the definitive, comprehensive reference on the subject of anatomy.
Two Australian experts were called on to contribute to the current edition, Gray's Anatomy: The Anatomical Basis of Clinical Practice including A/Prof Quentin Fogg who was also the only anatomist in Australia to have contributed. Quentin edited the chapter ‘Lungs and Pleura’ reflecting his expertise in full-body anatomy.
Quentin also runs the Surgical Anatomy Laboratory in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, School of Biomedical Sciences, exploring all regions of the body, focuses on the limbs, and particularly hands and feet.
Having the University of Melbourne involved in this leading text is testament to the academic and technical staff in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience. Anatomists from the University are involved in anatomy internationally, including in the Australian and New Zealand Association of Clinical Anatomists and with leading journals such as Anatomical Sciences Education, Clinical Anatomy and Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy.
The University’s anatomical research expertise and education has been enhanced by the recently formed Melbourne Academy of Surgical Anatomy, which aims to become an international leader in anatomical education and research, and to provide life-long opportunities for development of clinicians.
