Dr Elena Schneider shortlisted as finalist for prestigious Club Melbourne Fellowship

Dr Schneider, of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, was nominated for the Fellowship, which is designed to support the next generation of Melbourne’s elite research leaders.

The announcement is the latest in a series of recent successes for Dr Schneider. In 2018, she received the 2018 TSANZ / Vertex Research Award. Earlier this year, she was also awarded the prestigious TSANZSRS Peter Phelan Research Award from the Thoracic Society of Australia, the ASM Infectious Disease Travel Award, and the Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal for her doctoral thesis, which she completed in 2017.

Dr Schneider is currently a NHMRC Peter Doherty Research Fellow in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Her current research interests involve investigating pharmacological treatment options for cystic fibrosis patients with a long-term career goal to actively contribute to discovery, development and delivery in respiratory research.

Club Melbourne is a prestigious platform, through which the city’s esteemed thinkers and leaders work together to contribute to Victoria’s ongoing economic growth and reinforce the state’s international reputation for excellence in academic research and business.

The Fellowship is awarded annually to a Victorian-based mid-career researcher. It is open to researchers within five years of the conferral of their PhD who are applying for funds to support costs for research that involves attendance at an international conference.

The judging criteria includes research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement, as well as how attendance at an international conference would benefit applicants’ career progression.

In addition to $10,000 of research funding, the awardee will be able to attend exclusive Club Melbourne events, present their research to Club Ambassadors and will receive promotion across the Club Melbourne network.

The 2019 Club Melbourne Fellow will be announced in August.

Good luck Dr Schneider!
