Bachelor of Biomedicine and Masters programs showcased in India
Dr Debnath Ghosal (Dept of Biochemistry & Pharmacology) and Hamish Dunn from MDHS attend expos with future students in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore to talk about all things Melbourne.
The Melbourne showcase aimed at prospective students in India highlighted the University of Melbourne’s world ranking, the biomedical precinct and the popular degree programs offered by the Faculty of MDHS.
The University is currently ranked as the top university in Australia, and the 14th university globally in the QS World University Rankings 2024.
Both the Bachelor of Biomedicine and the reimagined Master of Biomedical Science were promoted at the recent events in India and these were some of the most popular degrees prospective student enquired about. The UniMelb exhibitions included interactive experiences such as Virtual Reality simulation and photo booth as well as much loved merchandise.

Dr Debnath Ghosal, Senior Lecturer and Laboratory Head in the Dept of Biochemistry & Pharmacology, at the Bio21 Molecular Science and Biotechnology Institute, gave a number of presentations and shared his academic journey with attendees, telling his unique story of how he came to the Bio21 Institute. Debnath spoke about his research, his experience teaching and what it's like to work in the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct - the largest biomedical precinct in the southern hemisphere and ranked among the top three in the world for biomedical research.

Debnath highlighted that the overall experience of studying and researching in the Biomedical Precinct is very similar to that of top medicals schools in the USA such as Harvard and Stanford Medical.
The expos in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore were very well attended - Delhi had the most attendees with some 400+ registrations and 800+ unique visitors to our exhibition. There were a lot of enquiries about a number of different programs.
Whilst in India, Debnath who is also the MDHS Lead for the Melbourne India Postgraduate Academy (MIPA) Program at the University, took the opportunity to meet with a number of academic to discuss Joint PhD partnerships and other research collaborations.
