All about the views: How SBS researchers are dominating the MDHS socials

Have you seen the 10 second research reel featuring Graham Mackay, Garron Dodd and Maria Liaskos?

Instagram Reel

It’s the 12th most loved video of all videos from UniMelb this year, and the best performing video from MDHS ever!

As at 24 June it has:  66,830 views |  38,386 reach | 1,836 engagements!

How it came about

Put simply, we wanted to celebrate Graham, Garron, and Maria, who were all up for an award. So we asked MDHS Social Media what we could do.

To get some cute and engaging soundbites the researchers were asked questions like:

  • What’s the most interesting fact from your research?
  • What’s the one takeaway you want people to know about your research?
  • What do you love most about your job/conducting this type of research?
  • What’s a surprising discovery your research has found, or led you to?

The video was intentionally made to look like they were randomly asked the questions out of the blue. The researchers had a couple of run throughs, and a few takes to frame their answers.

The plan was to compile the 10-second answers into a fun reel, with scattered bloopers and funny moments throughout.

Which was achieved! Congratulations Graham, Garron, and Maria.

Let us know if you have something fun and interesting about your research that can be captured for social!
