Meet Our Talent
Meet Christopher McDevitt
Professor Christopher McDevitt is a leading microbiologist in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. His is a Research Co-Director for the School of Biomedical Sciences, Co-Lead of the Bacterial and Parasitic Infections theme and Head of the McDevitt Research Group. His lab is focused on antimicrobial resistance and metal ions in bacterial pathogens specifically how pathogens interact with hosts to develop new treatments.

Leading the Way in Infectious Disease Research
Recently Christopher received an NHMRC Ideas Grant to further his research tackling one of the world’s most persistent and deadly infectious threats: Streptococcus pneumoniae, the bacterium responsible for pneumonia, meningitis, and bloodstream infections. Despite the availability of vaccines, S. pneumoniae continues to claim thousands of lives every year and remains a pressing global health challenge.
Professor McDevitt’s work exemplifies the world‑class innovation and leadership within the School of Biomedical Sciences. Combining cutting‑edge structural biology, microbiology and AI‑assisted analysis, his team is opening new doors in understanding of bacterial pathogens and pathways toward more effective treatments.
