Meet Our Talent

"Our discoveries can be leveraged to improve patient treatments at the advanced stage of disease."

Meet Harry Horsnell

Dr Harry Horsnell is a Research Officer and Researcher in the Mueller Lab, Dept of Microbiology & Immunology at the Doherty Institute. Harry joined Professor Scott Mueller’s laboratory in 2022 funded by a EMBO International Postdoctoral Fellowship Award.

His research has focused on understanding the interactions between stromal cells, immune cells and cancer metastasis.

90% of all cancer deaths are due to metastasis and Harry is particularly focusing on melanoma and breast metastasis.

Metastasis to lymph nodes remains a strong indicator of poor clinical outcomes so I am working to understand the molecular and cellular players driving immune dysfunction at this phase of disease.

Recently Harry received NHMRC Ideas Grant to better understand the lymph node’s role in cancer metastasis.

Understanding how cells within the lymph node interact in precise locations is key to better combating metastatic invasion into this tissue. Our discoveries can be leveraged to improve patient treatments at the advanced stage of disease. In particular we aim to challenge the dogma of removing lymph nodes, often painful and can lead to long term complications, and instead targeting metastatic tissues in place to restore their normal immune function against cancer.
