Meet Viet

Viet's unique career pathway in both experimental and clinical neuroscience has led him to his current position as a research nurse within the multiple sclerosis research team at Alfred Health.

After completing a Bachelor of Biomedicine (Honours) at the University of Melbourne, Viet opted to enrol in the Master of Nursing Science. He graduated as a Registered Nurse and secured a graduate medical/surgical nursing position with the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Since then Viet has completed a two-year mental health nursing training program at NorthWestern Mental Health and a Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Nursing Practice at the University of Melbourne.

He joined the multiple sclerosis research team at Alfred Health as a Research Nurse and worked on pharmaceutical clinical trials.

I was successful when I interviewed for my current role because they were specifically looking for a registered nurse with a vast background in biomedical research - and thankfully I fit the criteria because I did biomedicine (with honours) prior to my nursing education.

Bringing together experience from clinical research and mental health nursing, Viet is now doing a Master of Philosophy degree with Australian Catholic University and NorthWestern Mental Health to investigate support for mental health nurses working in high acuity environments.

Viet has an interest in experimental neuroscience and hopes to on day utilise his clinical experience for quality-improvement research through a PhD program.
