Meet Our Talent

"I wanted to do something a little different and make my own way - so I chose to move to Australia rather than study at home in New Zealand."

Meet Peter

From a traditional medicine pathway to a focus on cancer research

Orginally, Peter had planned to to complete his Biomedicine degree in the School of Biomedical Sciences and proceed to the medicine pathway, specialising in oncology or general practice. Realising the opportunities that were available to him, Peter chose instead to focus on cancer research and plans to pursue medicine at a later stage in his career.

Peter completed an Honours program in the Department of General Practice and is now doing his PhD at the University of Melbourne Centre for Cancer Research in the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, part of the largest biomedical precinct in the southern hemisphere. Peter’s research focuses on improving early cancer diagnosis and expediating time-to-diagnosis (or diagnostic delay) in general practice.

I was surrounded by impressive people with a wealth of knowledge, who were so passionate about what they do . . . I had the opportunity to learn from, meet and collaborate with international researchers in the field.
