Meet Kieren

Fascinated by the neurological connection between the mind and the body, Kieren majored in Neuroscience in his Biomedicine degree.

“I gained an appreciation of the neurological associations with the eye which was one of the reasons that lead me to choose to pursue Optometry,” he said.

After graduating Biomedicine, Kieren went on to do the Doctor of Optometry and has been working in private practice since then.

I’ve love working as a primary care professional. I’m primarily based in metropolitan Melbourne but have had the chance to work in short stints in regional Victoria and Tasmania as well.

Kieren has also completed a postgraduate course in Advanced Contact Lenses which has given him a deeper understanding in treating patients with ocular conditions, ensuring he is up to date with current best practice and knowledge.

“This involves the fitting of complex contact lenses in patients with ocular conditions such as keratoconus and the fitting of hard contact lenses such as Orthokeratology which aims to slow down patient's short-sightness.”

Reflecting on his time at UniMelb, Kieren says one of the highlights was making lifelong connections with friends who have now become colleagues in the optometry and allied health care sector.
