Preventing venomous injuries with the new Australian Bites & Stings app

Our experts from the Australian Venom Research Unit have partnered with Seqirus and others to update the free Australian Bites & Stings app. This app provides expert advice on venomous injury prevention and first aid to ensure all Australians can safely enjoy their outdoor adventures.

Drs Andrew Watt and Timothy Jackson, co-Heads of the Australian Venom Research Unit, have partnered with Seqirus (A CSL Company), the Department of Health, St John Ambulance and others to significantly update the free Australian Bites & Stings app.

The newly launched app provides all Australians with expert advice on how best to avoid venomous interactions in the bush, on the beach and everywhere in between. It also provides information of the sorts of venomous creatures you might encounter on your outdoor adventures and first aid instructions should a venomous bite or sting occur.

Instructions on how to perform first aid is rapidly available in the app.

The app release comes in the wake of a consumer survey which found that less than half of the more than 1,000 respondents were able to recognise the correct first aid to apply following a snakebite. The Australian Bites and Stings app makes sure that you'll always have the most up to date venom-related first aid knowledge right at your fingertips.

You can download the Australian Bites & Stings app for free on both Apple and Android devices.
