Meet the Dean of MDHS for 2021: Prof Jane Gunn

Welcome to our interim Dean of MDHS!

Professor Jane Gunn has taken on the role of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences for 2021 with Professor Shitij Kapur finishing his tenure at the University to start a new role as President and Principal of King’s College London in the UK.

Professor Gunn has held the role Deputy Dean of the Faculty of MDHS for the past three years and is inaugural Chair of Primary Care Research at the University. She has worked as both Head of the Department of General Practice and Deputy Head of the Melbourne Medical School.

Jane is an accomplished scholar, clinician researcher and seasoned leader and has made significant contributions to health services research and applied clinical research in the primary care setting. Her leadership has raised the profile and rigor of primary care research in Australia and was recognised by her election, in 2016, as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.

Throughout this past year, Professor Gunn has been instrumental in formulating the University’s response to COVID-19 in her role as the Chief Public Health Adviser as part of the University’s pandemic response team.
