Global leader in immunological research recognised in PM’s Prizes for Science

A/Prof Laura Mackay, Dept of Microbiology and Immunology, SBS, named Life Scientist of the Year.

Laboratory Head (Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Peter Doherty Institute), A/Prof Laura Mackay has been awarded the Frank Fenner Prize for Life Scientist of the Year for identifying immune cells that protect against both infection and cancer.

“This award is a huge celebration of the science that’s taken place in Melbourne and Australia for several years now,” she said. “It’s a huge honour to have my team recognised.”

“It’s not just my work, but the work of my team, and my mentors, collaborators and people I’ve worked with over so many years. It’s really great to shine a spotlight on our breakthroughs.”

A/Prof Mackay is based at the Peter Doherty Institute (PDI). The Institute was established through a partnership between the University of Melbourne and the The Royal Melbourne Hospital.
