Biomed alumna celebrates Queen’s Baton Relay arrival

Elena Galiabovitch - doctor and Olympic athlete - was one of seven batonbearers in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay.

The University of Melbourne and the University of Birmingham hosted the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay on the Parkville campus on 20 March. The event celebrated the arrival in Australia of the Queen’s Baton Relay.

Among the seven batonbearers was Bachelor of Biomedicine alumna and Olympic and Commonwealth athlete, Dr Elena Galiabovitch. Elena is a professional pistol shooter in the 25m Sports Pistol. In 2020, she was selected as an Oceania Olympic Flag Bearer at the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony - in part due to her involvement in the fight against COVID-19 in Australia. Read more

Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor Adrian Little who welcomed the Queen's Baton onto  Melbourne campus said, "The Commonwealth Games are a great example of the strength of global partnerships. As an institution our own partnerships, including with fellow Universitas 21 member the University of Birmingham, are core to our identity and make our research and our engagement with students richer."
