Strengthening genomics-informed surveillance, diagnosis, and control of infectious diseases across the Asia-Pacific

Summary

Supporting capacity building in the surveillance and diagnosis of key priority infectious diseases including typhoid fever, tuberculosis, dengue, and influenza in six Asia-Pacific countries: Fiji, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Philippines, and Bhutan. Mid-career professionals working in public health laboratories undertook a five-week training program, training in laboratory procedures for whole genome sequencing of viral and bacterial pathogens (pathogen genomics), as well as bioinformatics and genomic epidemiology to support data analysis and reporting. It is expected that the Fellows will implement the skills and knowledge that they have developed to strengthen infectious disease surveillance programs in their home countries, thereby improving national and regional health outcomes.
