About us

PUBS (Pharmacology United with Biochemistry Students) is a not-for-profit student run organisation at the University of Melbourne. PUBS represents the interests of the students in the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry, and Health Science. The group is comprised of both Graduate Researchers and Honours students. PUBS is affiliated with both the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology and the Graduate Student Association.

PUBS plays a role in hosting various events throughout the year. Whether it be academic, industry-based, networking, and social activities – PUBS facilitates strengthening and growth of the students of Biochemistry and Pharmacology and prepares them for life beyond their degrees.

The beginning of the year starts with the PUBS BBQ, which is an invaluable orientation event for students new and old. Throughout the year the group are involved in a range of activities from movie and games nights to career and writing workshops. A staple event in the PUBS calendar is the student retreat. The retreat is an opportunity to strengthen social and academic friendships and take time to learn from academic and industry professionals.

The aims of the Pharmacology United with Biochemistry Students Graduate Group are:

  • To promote interaction, welfare and cohesion between Honours and graduate students in the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology.
  • To enrich the academic and professional life of Honours and graduate students in the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology.
  • To provide academic support to fellow Honours and graduate students and thus foster communication of research ideas and collaborations amongst students and to members of the wider community.
  • To support the academic endeavours of Honours and graduate students and to act as a representative group within the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology.
