Mapping innovation, development and applications of stem cell technologies

The Centre for Stem Cell Systems has partnered with IP Australia to map the know-how created by stem cell research in Australia and globally, providing clarity on opportunities for stem cell-based inventions that will benefit the Australian public.

IP Australia and the Centre for Stem Cell Systems have partnered together to create a patent analytics report on the development of technology relating to mammalian pluripotent stem cells.

Mammalian pluripotent stem cells provide valuable insights into cell biology and differentiation, and are used in disease models, drug development and screening, and regenerative cell therapy. This report includes analysis of innovation in stimulation and tissue engineering with mammalian pluripotent stem cells, an area of particular interest to the Centre.

"Recognition of the IP landscape is an essential consideration if Australia is to capitalise on the next wave of stem cell research." said Professor Christine Wells, Director of the Centre for Stem Cell Systems.

About IP Australia:

IP Australia is the Australian Government agency that administers intellectual property (IP) rights and legislation relating to patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeder's rights.

About the Centre for Stem Cell Systems:

The Centre for Stem Cell Systems at the University of Melbourne was established to bring together the different scientific disciplines needed to progress stem cell research and understand the societal impacts of that research.
