EMCRA Collaborative Award: 2017 Winners Announced

""

It is with great pleasure that we can announce the winners of the inaugural round of the EMCRA (Early-Mid Career Researchers Association) Collaborative Award. This seed funding was established to promote collaboration between level A & B postdocs in the School of Biomedical Sciences. Each application was required to have two postdocs from two different departments in the School, on a project of their own devising. The total amount of funding available in 2017 was $60k. We received eight excellent applications, and are happy to announce that we can provide funding for four of them.

The winners are:

Dr Sidonia Eckle (Department of Microbiology & Immunology) & Dr Eleanor Saunders (Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology) for their project: “Immune protection from parasites by a novel immune cell type”. Awarded: $20,000

Dr Sophie Paquet-Fifield (Department of Pathology) & Dr Andrew Jarnicki (Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics) for their project: “Identifying Optimal Pluripotency in Stem Cells for Repairing Lung Damage”. Awarded: $17,500

Dr Sacha Pidot (Department of Microbiology & Immunology) & Dr Margaret Lam (Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology) for their project: “Investigating the diversity of iron-scavenging pathways in Klebsiella bacteria”. Awarded: $12,500

Dr Zoe Dyson (Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology) & Dr Danielle Ingle (Department of Microbiology & Immunology) for their project: “Phage-host co evolution and biocontrol of bacterial pathogen Klebsiella pneumoniae”. Awarded: $10,000

Congratulations to the winners, and thank-you to everyone who submitted an application. The projects funded will be presented as part of EMCRA’s whole-School research symposium on November 9th. Please save the date.
