Project Details
The broad expression of the Sez6L2 gene in the postnatal brain indicates a likely role in neuronal circuits involved in learning and memory and Sez6L2 is a candidate gene for autism. In the cerebellum, Sez6L2 is required for maturation of synaptic circuits, particularly climbing fibre-Purkinje cell synapses however the function of Sez6L2 in cognitive processes has only begun to be investigated. This project will identify phenotypic differences in Sez6L2 knockout mice using behavioural tests of motor co-ordination, learning and memory as well as histochemical techniques to analyse neuron morphology.
