Welcome from Head of School

Welcome all to the latest issue of the School of Biomedical Sciences Newsletter. I would like to highlight some items in this issue.

I had the great pleasure of attending the School’s Research Committee Big Data Symposium on 30 August 2017 at the Auditorium Kenneth Myer Building.  Another hugely successful event organised by our School, bringing together experts from various parts of the University and partner institutions and a large audience of attendees. The meeting led to very stimulating discussions and it was nice to see social media contributing to these. We were the second most tweeted topic in Melbourne!  Please join me in thanking James Ryall, Stuart Ralph, our research committee and Fanoula Mouratidis for their great work as convenors, proposer and facilitator, respectively.  More details are available under Research.

Congratulations to our talented researchers on their Level C promotions - Dr Linda Wakim, Daniel Pellicci, Diana Stojanovski, David Williams, Jonathan Mangum, Charles Sevigny and Junhua Xiao. I would also like to note that of the ten finalists across the University in the 2017 3MT Competition, five were from our School! Our finalists were Jennifer Keller from the Mazzone Lab, Anatomy & Neuroscience, Mengjie Hu from the Boyogevitch Lab, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Erica Wynne-Jones from the Laura Mackay Lab, Microbiology & Immunology, Josh Newson from the Hartland Lab, Microbiology & Immunology and  Catriona Nguyen-Robertson from the Godfrey Lab, Microbiology & Immunology.

I hope that you will enjoy reading of the many achievements and wonderful work of our School.

Very best wishes,
