Researcher Connect Online is a 19-day online program for University of Melbourne graduate and academic researchers, showcasing high-level research tools, skills and support services. Coordinated by the University Library (Scholarly Services) and Research Computing Services, this program draws on the expert knowledge present across the University’s diverse research community, including Research Platforms teams.

The Melbourne Histology Platform is running a webinar as part of Researcher Connect's Meet the Platforms series:

Microscopy is synonymous with research, but before biological samples can be visualized under a microscope they must first be specially prepared and stained – this is the process of histology.

This webinar will provide a brief overview of the fundamental elements of the histology process, use case studies to illustrate the diverse applications of histology in research, and demonstrate how the Melbourne Histology Platform can help researchers obtain optimal sample preparation and staining.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this webinar, participants will:

  • Be able to appreciate the innate link between histology and microscopy
  • Know the fundamental elements of the process of preparation and staining of biological samples for optical microscopy
  • Understand the importance of expertise when incorporating histology into experimental design
  • Through case studies of Melbourne Histology Platform clients, understand the diverse contexts of biological research questions in which histology can be a valuable tool
