Dr Kate Murphy

Research Fellow at the Centre for Muscle Research

I am investigating conditions associated with muscle wasting such as cancer, ageing, injury and the muscular diseases. We aim to determine mechanisms causing wasting and weakness and to identify and test new therapies, with the overall goal of improving the life of affected patients.

It’s a very exciting time for biomedicine, especially with the integration of gene, protein and metabolism analyses. This is leading to the identification of new mechanisms and treatment targets for human disease. That’s why I would say to my younger self to ‘be confident in your abilities and aim high’.
