Professor Laura Mackay, Department of Microbiology and Immunology and Laboratory Head at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, appeared as a guest on The Immunology Podcast.

She spoke with Dr Brenda Raud and Dr Jason Goldsmith about her research into memory T cell responses and her ongoing collaboration with Pfizer to identify and validate new targets for cancer therapy.

For a number of years, Laura has been at the forefront of this area of research with her laboratory group focusing on the signals that control tissue-resident memory T cell differentiation and how these cells can be harnessed to develop new treatments for infection, cancer, and autoimmune disease. More recently, her work has also contributed to the knowledge base around the potential of T cell-based vaccines, including second generation COVID-19 vaccines.

Laura’s research has been featured in Journals including Science, Nature, Nature Immunology, Nature Medicine, Immunity, and PNAS and her work is supported by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Research Council (ARC), Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Sylvia & Charles Viertel Charitable Foundation, The Michelson Foundation, and a Collaboration Agreement with Pfizer.
