Professor Matthew Watt

Head of Department Anatomy and Physiology

What does your research focus on and why is it important?

We work on understanding how metabolism is altered in obesity and related diseases such as type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease. This is important because understanding how these diseases develop allows us to identify new ways to treat these diseases (which are very common).

Did you have a part-time job whilst at school/studying?

Many! Assistant tennis coach and Coles were the mainstays.

What was your first job in Biomedical Sciences?

I was a postdoctoral scientist at the University of Guelph in Canada.
