Our Biomedicine Student Society committee - heros of O-Week!

Thank you to the Biomedicine Student Society committee and members for your unwavering optimism and enthusiasm welcoming our first year Bachelor of Biomedicine students during O-Week 2024.

Starting your first year of a BBiomed at UniMelb can be daunting for some...having an energetic, welcoming, fun and vibrant group of peers in your corner to help you settle into university life, makes the experience so much easier. This year was action-packed and contributes to students making those all-important first connections and contacts.

O-Week is a super special time and it’s wonderful that our first year students are able to join the collegiate and respectful community you have built among our BBiomed students.

Biomed O-Week Activities

Monday - We can be Health Heros

Prof Jenny Wilkinson Burka joined a panel for our first years, alongside our Dean, Professor Jane Gunn, at a relaxed lunchtime event. She highlighted the breadth of career pathways and opportunities that a Bachelor of Biomedicine gives students.

Find your passion – find what you most enjoy, you will be surprised where it can take you.

The enthusiasm from the new cohort was evident in the Q&A particularly around risk, doubt and respect.

Monday - How to Uni

The ‘How to Uni’ event was focussed on showing first years how to settle in  using the LMS, a guide to uni services, and advice on uni life and studying, particularly as its so different to high school!

This was followed by a coffee catch-up at Dr Dax to get to know each other and first years could ask further questions.

Tuesday – BBQ

Who doesn’t love free food?

The merch wheel was getting a run with the highly sort after hoodies up for the lucky winning spinners!

Wednesday - Trivia Night

Trivia is not just trivia when hosted by the Biomed Student Society - the questions are designed for BBiomed brains! With games between rounds, and prizes to be won.

This was a relaxed but competitive activity that created a fun and safe environment for meeting new people. First years got to meet each other, and the second and third years that will be their camp leaders at the upcoming first years camp.

Friday – BSS Takes the Zoo

This was the first time BSS has ever had a zoo day. First years completed a scavenger hunt around Melbourne Zoo, another great opportunity for first years to meet people and make friends while enjoying the animals including Biomed Bear.
