Dr Enzo Porrello

Senior Research Fellow, Department of Physiology

I head the Cardiac Regeneration Group at the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. My team is trying to understand how to repair and replace damaged heart cells by creating heart tissues from stem cells in a dish.

I am inspired by the thrill of discovery and the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children with heart disease. Science is progressing at a faster rate than ever and we have truly revolutionary technologies at our fingertips. We are entering into a new and exciting era of personalised precision medicine that is set to change our world.

My advice to my younger self is ‘don’t be afraid of failure. You can only grow by learning from your mistakes’.
