Stem cell research is an multidisciplinary field integrating developmental and cell biology, computational and systems biology, clinical medicine, engineering, sociology, philosophy and law. Students at the University of Melbourne can study stem cells, and gain research experience in undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Undergraduate
The multidisciplinary nature of stem cells complements a diverse array of disciplines, electives, and majors. Stem cell specific subjects and research projects are available for undergraduate students.

Subjects
Undergraduate students can study stem cells as a part of a major, as an elective subject, or as complementary breath, through the following subjects. It is advised that students consult the current handbook entry for eligibility and pre-requisite requirements.

Undergraduate research
Engage in a genuine research experience and develop essential research skills through our undergraduate projects with leading stem cell research groups. Research projects include for-credit undergraduate subjects, vacation scholarships, and internships. Note that in response to the COVID-19 situation, some vacation scholarship and internship application dates may be postponed.
Honours and Graduate Research
Providing students with a unique opportunity to integrate multiple disciplines and contribute to cutting edge research. Students will also gain exposure to the rapidly advancing ideas and technologies used to study stem cells.

Master of Biomedical Science
The Master of Biomedical Science offers graduates a pathway into a research or other science based careers, or PhD studies.

Graduates of a Doctor of Philosophy will be specialists within their field, leaders in communities, attuned to cultural diversity and active global citizens.
