Centre Open Day Debut a Success

The Centre for Stem Cell Systems had their debut at The University of Melbourne’s Open Day on Sunday August 19, and were thrilled at the interest and engagement from prospective students and family members regarding the possibility to study stem cells.

The Centre activity, led by Teaching Fellow Dr Rosa McCarty, provided prospective students with information about stem cell focussed undergraduate and postgraduate study pathways and coincided with the launch of the Centre’s new study dedicated website pages.

Information about stem cell thematic pathways which can be taken as part of the Bachelor of Biomedicine or Bachelor of Science were popular and enthusiastically received. The Centre provided prospective students with pathways from undergraduate into postgraduate study and showcased the diversity in career pathways available to stem cell graduates.

Summaries about the incredible stem cell research being conducted by scientists at the University of Melbourne were particularly popular. These vignettes showcased important research outcomes, and the impact of this research on the patients and the broader community.

Centre student volunteers including Saed Fahd and Gabriel Lirios spoke at length with the visiting families, to answer questions not only about studying stem cells, but also university and undergraduate life.

“The extent of interest in the Centre’s presence at Open Day shows the community and future students are enthused and fascinated by the diversity and exciting potential of the Centre’s research”. Rosa continues to work with the University’s academic and teaching staff to enrich stem cell education at the University of Melbourne. For more information, please see our Study Page.
