Discoveries hidden in big data

Associate Professor Jess Mar and Dr Atefeh Fard

Associate Professor Jessica Mar is a group leader at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology at the University of Queensland.

Her lab focusses on developing and using statistical models to interrogate data from stem cells to understand what happens during ageing and disease, and to understand the genetic variability in populations of cells.

Research Fellow Dr Atefeh Fard identifies and studies genetic markers that drive the ageing process and confer disease. This information will help researchers explore how to halt progression of these diseases.

Read more about their research in Discoveries hidden in big data.

Listen to Jess and Ati, as they share an insight into their research, the importance of communication in the lab and their advice to young students who are interested in science and want to get a foot in the door.
