Biomedical Sciences Histology Facility

Histology is the study of the microscopic anatomy of cells and tissues of humans, animals and plants.

Introduction

Histology is the study of the microscopic anatomy of cells and tissues of humans, animals and plants. The combination of techniques and processes in order to visualise microscopic structures and produce the end image make Histology a truly challenging blend of art and science.

The Biomedical Sciences Histology Facility provides a full range of histology services for research and specialised diagnostic purposes. Our clients include faculties of the university, other educational institutions and external customers Australia-wide.

Testimonial

Recently, the Biomedical Sciences Histology Facility undertook some strange requests from me to cut and stain slides for an artistic project, a fringe festival show performed live on a microscope – Laura was brilliant, she immediately worked out what I needed and spent the time with me to embed and cut the slides the specific way they needed to look, and was able to come up with unconventional solutions to help me achieve the right colours in the tissues.  She prepared slides quickly and was very patient with my multiple requests!  Thanks to histology, we now have a showcase of slides ready to share the beauty of the microscopic world with the public!
